TechDairy » Windows 7 http://techdairy.com technology the milky way Tue, 02 Feb 2010 07:47:22 +0000 http://wordpress.org/?v=2.9.1 en hourly 1 Multitouch in Windows 7 http://techdairy.com/2010/02/02/multitouch-in-windows-7/ http://techdairy.com/2010/02/02/multitouch-in-windows-7/#comments Tue, 02 Feb 2010 07:47:22 +0000 milkman http://techdairy.com/?p=104 Multitouch in Windows 7 is like syrup on a hamburger.  The syrup is multitouch and the hamburger is Windows 7.  Windows 7 has a metaphor that isn’t suited for multitouch.  It’s an operating system that was built for the use of a keyboard and a mouse, not for fingers.  What we’re left with are a whole bunch of buttons that are hard to click, a whole bunch of windows that are hard to drag, and a whole bunch of applications that either don’t have touch support at all, or have different interactions from one app to another.  It’s a mess!  I’ll still eat my hamburger, just without the syrup.

Looks like I’m on the right side of the fence!  I’ve been using Windows 7 for about 6 months and I’ve got to say that it’s quite an improvement over Windows Vista.  While I hear that the windows shell for both Operating Systems are almost identical, Windows 7 is faster, runs better on a low spec machine, and has better driver integration.  I’ve used the same drivers in Windows 7 and Windows Vista, but in Windows Vista (the operating system that the drivers were made for) the drivers caused the machine to crash repeatedly.  WTF!

Anyway, even as I write this in the comfort of Snow Leopard, I’m a fan of Windows 7 and I recommend it to everybody running a windows machine.
