Multitouch in Windows 7

Multitouch in Windows 7 is like syrup on a hamburger.  The syrup is multitouch and the hamburger is Windows 7.  Windows 7 has a metaphor that isn’t suited for multitouch.  It’s an operating system that was built for the use of a keyboard and a mouse, not for fingers.  What we’re left with are a whole bunch of buttons that are hard to click, a whole bunch of windows that are hard to drag, and a whole bunch of applications that either don’t have touch support at all, or have different interactions from one app to another.  It’s a mess!  I’ll still eat my hamburger, just without the syrup.

Quit your fucking whining

Enterprise IT is made up of a bunch of fuckin whiners. It’s exactly what happens when too much process(mess) is placed around simple tasks like sending an email, sharing a file, and putting a machine on the domain. To hell with IT.

This latest IT whining really just grinds my gears.

Fu(k up recovery? Amazon Kindle 2 firmware upgrade

How bad do you have to mess up in the battery management department to be able to release a firmware update that increases battery life by up to 85%?

85%!  That’s a shit ton of extra battery life!  You mean that for the first few months I had the kindle 2 I was getting battery-life raped?

This is a result of one of the following:

  • They royally screwed up on battery management the first time around, which got Scotty fired and ended with this new firmware upgrade.
  • They’re over-exagerating the firmware upgrade to make people jolly for the holidays.  Marketing antics.
  • They turned off the internal hidden Camera.  They realized they didn’t get enough entertaining footage from avid book readers.

Anyway, congrats to all those who discovered that their kindle now has 85% more stamina.

Windows 7 adoption by Vista Users

windows7_01Windows 7 is doing well as an upgrade to Windows Vista users. Looks like I’m on the right side of the fence!  I’ve been using Windows 7 for about 6 months and I’ve got to say that it’s quite an improvement over Windows Vista.  While I hear that the windows shell for both Operating Systems are almost identical, Windows 7 is faster, runs better on a low spec machine, and has better driver integration.  I’ve used the same drivers in Windows 7 and Windows Vista, but in Windows Vista (the operating system that the drivers were made for) the drivers caused the machine to crash repeatedly.  WTF!

Anyway, even as I write this in the comfort of Snow Leopard, I’m a fan of Windows 7 and I recommend it to everybody running a windows machine.

Abyssus gaming mouse from Razer

Razer has had some more radical looking mice over the years.  This one goes back to the basics and is ambidextrous.  None of that crazy thumb fitting nonsense that makes you have to move your whole arm to move the cursor.  Some adept fingertip movement is all that’s needed!

This mouse has some great specs (3500dpi IR and sensitivity controls), and is wired, the way all gamer mice should be.  Only $49.99.  Not bad.

I’m not a fan of the magic mouse, but this dude is SO gushy over the magic mouse it makes me sick.  I think I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.
